Upgrade Your Boots with Fold-Over Covers | Western inspired

Cowboy boots are having a huge resurgence and are a must-have for festival season. This trend has inspired me to DIY boot covers. They’re a great way to style shoes you already own, to give them a fresh new look. They are also super versatile and perfect for transitional seasons.

Not only will I be DIY-ing a couple boot covers but I’m going to show you a trick I came up with to get them to stay upright. And by that I mean, how to get them to stay up over your legs so they aren’t sweeping the floor when walking.

I also want to mention that these covers are “wide-calf friendly” as you have the option to customize them using your own measurements. All of which I’ll demonstrate in the video tutorial below. I’m working on a pattern bundle as well, to hopefully include varying sizes and designs for additional custom options.

But let’s say you’re not interested in a western style version. Lucky for you, I decided on doing two versions to show ways to use different materials. For version 1, I started with a simple fold-over style that’s great for beginners.

For version 2, I kicked things up a notch with a western-inspired style by incorporating features commonly seen on cowboy boots. This includes the scallop edge at the leg opening and pull straps (fun fact: they’re actually functional and are for pulling your boots on with ease). These style boots are often adorned with decorative stitches and appliqués, which I briefly touched on.
