Would you believe I’ve had this vintage dress for almost 2 1/2 years?! I got it from an online consignment shop after falling in love with the color, which I later found out is called periwinkle (thanks to hubby).
I kept contemplating if I should cut into it, because for one it was a beautiful dress. Secondly, sheer fabrics such as this one are a pain to work with. And, I dunno if you could tell from the “before” photo but it completely unlined.
So in other words, it was a big project! My first thought was how in the world am I going to find a fabric in a similar color to line it? It’s no wonder I kept putting it off all these years! All things considered, I was never going to wear it in its current state. And with Spring around the corner, I felt it was time to revamp it.
In today’s vintage dress makeover I’ll show you how to add lining to an unlined dress. I’ll also be sharing how to spice up a plain dress or skirt by adding a ruffle hem. This is also a great way to add length to a dress or skirt, to make them longer if they’re too short for your liking.

A slip wasn’t an option because it was difficult finding one to suit my needs due to the open back. Even so, they are pricey! I admit this was a big project but it turned out to be one of my favs so far.
