DIY Paperbag Waist Pants Refashion: Tutorial

Today’s refashion is a little different, because I’ll be taking you behind the scenes and showing you how I altered these oversized pants on myself without assistance. Not that I had a choice really since I’m not equipped with a dress form suitable for pants anyways. Haha!

I tend to stay away from white bottoms for obvious reasons. However, I’ve always wanted a pair of white wide-leg pants, specifically linen. They’re just something about them that are so elegant and class-chic!

This pair was from a trip I took to my local thrift store last year. Lucky for me, they were having an “end of summer sale”, so I got them half off. Considering it was near the end of season, I held off on remaking them.

In today’s upcyle tutorial, I’ll be showing you an easy way to elevate a plain pair of trousers, shorts or even skirts, by adding ruffles to create a chic paperbag look.

You’ll Need:

Pins

Ruler

Scissors

Seam Ripper

Marking Tool

Matching Threads (heavy-duty & contrast color)

Sewing Machine

Tape Measure

Hand Needle

Pants (mid to high rise)

Fabric (1/4 yd if needed for the ruffles)

How much fabric you’ll need depends on your pants waist measurement and the look you’re going for. Such as, how high you want the ruffles, how ruffled you want the waist or if you want ruffles just in front or both back & front. Decide what works for you. For a similar look, see photo above for my recommendations.

At first my intentions were to remove the pockets. But after fitting, I realized I could pull off keeping them, if I shifted the side seams a little towards the back.

If you attempt this, I suggest using a pair that doesn’t have lining. Unless of course, you’re experienced. My pair was fully lined, so it proved to be a bit more challenging.

This is probably the quickest and easiest upcycle This is probably the quickest and easiest upcycle I’ve ever done, and the results speak for themselves. ✂️ I whipped this up in just a couple of hours, with most of the time spent removing the turtleneck lol. No sewing machine required. Just a few snips here and there and a bit of hand sewing. 🎀 Oh, and it’s reversible too! In the video, I simply reversed the top for steps 1 & 2 😁 Full tutorial on my channel #linkinbio

I had this vintage dress and an idea to upcycle it I had this vintage dress and an idea to upcycle it by incorporating the belt buckle as a decorative accent. Coming up with the idea was the easy part. Figuring out how to make it work was another challenge. 🤦‍♀️

I actually had to sleep on it for a couple of days because I wanted the buckle to be removable. I was worried it might tarnish in the wash. 🤷‍♀️

That’s when it hit me, Why not make the dress convertible? In the end, I transformed it into a two-piece set! ✂️ It turned out to be one of my most versatile and favorite remakes so far. Check out the tutorial to see how everything came together! 💃🏻

No-sew ways to style a zipper skirt into a dress. No-sew ways to style a zipper skirt into a dress. All you need is a couple pieces of ribbon or tie straps. 👗 I didn’t experience any discomfort from the zipper but you can do this with a button front skirt as well. #styletips
