Hello DIY enthusiasts and fashion lovers! We’re kicking off the summer season, with a cute bow peplum top (inspired by GANNI tie-front blouse), that’s been making the rounds on social media. Most of the DIYs I saw online were done using a sewing pattern, so I thought I’d try my hand at recreating the look using a dress shirt instead.
I always like to start my summer makes with a couple dress shirt upcycle. Dress shirts are super versatile and the fabrics are lightweight and breathable which makes them perfect for summertime. Plus it’s one of those items you can always find at any thrift store.
I’ll be using a women’s blouse to demonstrate so but you can use men’s shirt as well. Try to stick to one that’s your size so you won’t have to do a ton of alterations. Alright, go get yourself a shirt and let’s get started!

My Takeaway
I’m happy with the way it turned out. The only thing I would’ve done differently is to add a couple bust darts while altering the sleeves. I’m thinking of making another version with a few modifications.
This time around I’ll be using a men’s dress shirt. The women’s shirt I used was much softer than a typical dress shirt, which wasn’t terrible. I just wish it had a little more structure.
On that note, I’d love to see you add your own spin! Whether it be using a contrasting color for the tie bows or even forgoing the peplum altogether. Whatever you decide, I’d love to see your version. 😊
I hope this tutorial helped you in some way. If so, let me know in the comments below.
