It is sweater weather alright and sweater vests are the trendy piece you need in your wardrobe this season. From oversized silhouettes to fitted styles, knitted vests are both warm and stylish.
I’ve wanted to try my hand at another sweater refashion but I’ve been putting it off as knits can be tricky to work with. They unravel easily if not handled carefully. However, this time around I felt a lot more confident as I figured out a couple techniques (which I shared in the video) that you can use when upcycling knitwear.
I went in with the idea to transform the oversized sweater into a vest with open sides. However, while looking at the oversized sleeves I immediately thought of creating a mini outfit for my daughter.
Initially I was going to do a matching vest for her but really wanted to use up as much of the sleeve as possible. After playing around with ideas, I settled on doing a knitted overall aka dungaree instead which she and I absolutely love!

The End Result
How cute is her little knitted overall?! She loved it as much as I did, so much so that she actually put up a fight when it came time to take it off! I could tell she was really comfortable in it.
I must add that I was really surprised at how versatile the sweater vest turned out to be. Whether dressed up or down, it can be worn as an inner layer under a coat or over a long sleeve button down as an outer layer. It’s truly become a versatile closet staple for me and in my opinion, a layering essential.
