Recently I started a challenge on Instagram called the “Holiday Thrifted Outfit Challenge”. I broke it up into 2 parts. Part 1 was a semi-formal look; think Christmas party, while Part 2 (ongoing till Dec 22nd) will be formal; think New Years Eve. The challenge is open to both sew-ers and non-sewers.
The idea behind it is to get creative and put together an outfit using ONLY thrifted fabrics or clothing, along with what you already have. To simplify the process for sewers, the use of a sewing patterns were allowed. I myself chose to use a pattern to speed up the process.
I’ve collected sewing patterns some years ago, when my fabric hoarding spilled over into pattern hoarding. It was short-lived once I fell into refashioning clothes. Only a handful of them have ever been opened so I felt it was time I put them to good use.
Going along with the theme of the challenge, I chose to use one of the patterns I already own that came closest to the look I was going for. It wasn’t ideal but I was determined to make it work. I knew I wanted to make a wide-leg jumpsuit and add circle flounce sleeves also known as circular or butterfly sleeves. When I spotted these silky curtain panels at my local thrift store, I knew they’d be perfect! For the entire jumpsuit I used around 3.5 yards.
Materials Used:
Fabric (two 60″x 98″ curtain panels)
