I have for you today my most challenging and probably my favorite project yet! I was asked if I could recreate THE most talked about sparkly gold thigh-high boots, worn by former First Lady, Michelle Obama.
I was iffy about taking on the task at first because believe it or not, I’ve never worked with sequins before let alone on a pair of boots. From what I gathered, sewing it required a lot of patience. However, I wasn’t one to back down from a challenge and you only learn by doing right?
To cut out some of the guesswork, I created a pattern for them (it looks like a hybrid between a sock and boot). I really wanted my boots to have one seam down the back much like the designer pair.
It took me some time for me to figure out how to draft the pattern to include a single seam. And I’m happy to report that the pattern is now finally available for download (for a small fee).
Materials Used:
Safety Pins (2 dozen)
1″ Elastic (1/2 yd non-roll)
Needle & Thread (for basting)
Rubber Bands + Spring Clamps (if any)
E 6000 Glue (with precision tip)
Tweezers
Cardboard
Clear Tape
Plastic Bottle
Drafting Paper
Disposable Gloves
Weights (any will do)
Pointed-Toe Pumps
Knit Mesh Lining (1/2 yd)
Stretch Sequin Fabric (1 yd)
The End Result
This tutorial is perfect for creating boot covers for cosplay costumes as well. Let me know below what you think and if the boot pattern is something you’d be interested in.
I’ve finally figured out how to digitize the boots pattern and it’s now available for download above.
