In my last post I did a tutorial on adding cargo style patch pockets to a pair of trousers. And it got me thinking about doing a Part 2 showing how to add a hidden side pocket version, so here we are. I know this is one most people struggle with or the lack thereof.
I don’t know about you, but clothes not having pockets are a deal breaker for me. I consider them a necessity. Especially in today’s day and age where almost everyone owns a smartphone and admittedly, those things rarely leave our side.
That said, if you prefer your pockets to be hidden and tucked away, this tutorial is for you. I’ll show you an easy way to add a hidden side seam pocket to just about any of your clothes. The best part is that you don’t have to undo anything but a section of the side seam. After seeing how simple it is, you’ll want to add pockets to all your pocketless clothes!
Materials Needed:

I hope you found this tutorial helpful so the next time you find a pocketless piece that you love, you’ll feel confident and better equipped to add pockets to your clothes.

Thank you so much for this, The amount of clothes I find and like but don’t have pockets is unreal.
I tried this on a skirt yesterday and love how it turned out, and I don’t have a lot of experience in sewing either so your instructions were easy to follow thank you!
Yes, lack of pockets are a deal breaker for me, unless I happen to like the item a LOT. That’s what happened when I got a dress for a wedding and now I want to add pockets. Thanks for your how-to help!
You’re welcome Ann Marie! Glad you found it helpful.
